Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 June 2026
This policy explains how Japan to Ireland ("we", "us") collects and uses your personal data when you contact us or use this website, and your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
Japan to Ireland is a car-import concierge service based in Ireland, helping customers source and register Japanese auction vehicles. For any privacy question, contact us at japantoirelandimport@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you submit our quote/enquiry form or contact us directly, we may collect:
- Your name and county
- Your email address and phone number
- Details of the car you want and your budget
- Any colour, spec or other preferences you choose to share
We do not knowingly collect any special-category (sensitive) personal data through this site.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To respond to your enquiry and prepare a sourcing quote — on the basis of taking steps at your request prior to entering a contract, and our legitimate interest in answering enquiries.
- To provide our service if you choose to proceed — on the basis of performing our contract with you.
- To meet legal and tax obligations relating to vehicle import and registration — on the basis of legal obligation.
How long we keep it
If you enquire but don't proceed, we keep your details for up to 24 months and then delete them. If you become a customer, we keep records for as long as required by Irish tax and customs law (generally up to 6 years).
Who we share it with
We only share your data where necessary to deliver the service — for example with Japanese auction agents, shipping and customs providers, and the relevant Irish authorities (Revenue / NCTS) for VRT and registration. We do not sell your data to anyone. This website is hosted by Netlify, and form submissions are processed through Netlify's secure infrastructure.
International transfers
Because importing involves Japan, some of your data (such as the car you want and your name for documentation) may be transferred outside the EU. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled securely.
Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email japantoirelandimport@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above shows when it last changed.
